While at Fabrica one of my first projects was to develop a piece of performance software for the improvised Paradise From Vocalbox featuring Japanese vocalist Koichi Makigami.

The aim was to create an interactive application which the performers could use to create Japanese style idiograms with their voices: mapping the sonic characteristics of the voice to the width and energy of the brush.

The piece became an instrument for one section of the performance during which each vocalist would play with it controlling the brush with their voice and responding to its motions: interacting with this idiosyncratic visual instrument.
